LA Train Crash

Just saw this on the web this morning, I sincerely hope no-one from HOD was hurt?!

funny you should post this nz, i take the same line where the accident happened except i take it 2 hours later. whew!

it's really sad that anyone had to die today. i realize the guy who parked his cherokee in the middle of the track was contemplating suicide (which is another horrible place to be spiritually / mentally) but to take people out in the attempt to do so was utterly tragic. my prayers to those who lost their loved ones today as well as to those who are in critical condition.

they shuttled us from union station downtown to burbank station. on the way, they dropped off people at the glendale station which was about 40 yards from the scene of the accident. we couldn't see much, but the smell of diesel fuel was making us nauseous! ambulance passing by what seemed like every minute, we were all grateful to have been spared.

one silver lining was that i'd never recieved so much email and cell phone calls concerning my personal safety. just reminded me how each new day is a gift and that we should always try to make the most out of it. lastly, to tell those whom we love to that we love them as much as possible, while we're still here!

As if people don't have enough fears & worries to go around these days [post 911]. Let's not give any of the other crazies any more ideas, SHALL WE?!!

I realize this indiv may have been extremely despondent [img]confused.gif[/img] [a mild way to put it], or a downright loon [or idiot?] - he wants to commit hara-kiri, then chickens out at last min to leave others "holding the bag" / let other people get hurt or die because of his "indecisiveness"...or really, derangement] [img]eek.gif[/img] Now THIS is a cat who needs some SERIOUS HELP [either clinically / psychologically, mucho jailtime, or w a 2x4"...or any combo of]...def NOT the type of guy you want next to you in a foxhole situation, know what I mean? Talk about the need for setting a precedent.

Really, I do feel for these despondent persons in this world...but this smacks of sheer arse-holedness...either way, he needs to pay.

Pretty soon, they're going to have to invent an alarm type system that halts a train if an object is detected idle on the tracks...& not just at crossings...or if the tracks are "somehow" screwed up...a costly venture, AWA no easy feat, for sure. God forbid anyone get caught up in that...

We had the same thing happen over here in England just last month. Some guy wanted to commit suicide so he thought he'd park on a rail line and take 20 other with him...

So sad...

This is so tremendously sad.

I used to ask myself why the train couldn't just stop if the engineer can see a pretty good distance ahead.
An aquaintance who used to work with the railroad told me that it takes three times the distance as the train is long, to stop.
If you have 75 cars on a train, it will take the distance of 225 cars to stop.
